Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Barshaini → Nakthan

Morning: Reporting at Barshaini (10 am)

Reach Barshaini, the starting point of the trek. Here you will meet our trek leaders and other fellow trekkers. There will be a small briefing and if you need anything to purchase like eatables, water bottles you can buy at Barshaini, a busy little trekking junction.

Here you:

  • Meet your trek leader and local guide.
  • Do a quick gear check (shoes, water, rainwear)
  • Get a short briefing on route, estimated timings, and safety rules.

By around 11:00 am, we will start our trek to Nakthan campsite. The trail is well used by villagers and you will cross small houses, fields and remote cafes (basic) with the Parvati River audible somewhere below. We will take short stops at dhabas for chai, Maggi or parathas and this will also help you get used to the altitude and your pace. You will reach Nakthan campsite after covering a 5-6kms trail in 3-4 hours by afternoon.

Once you arrive:

  • You check in to your allotted tents (generally twin / triple sharing with sleeping bags and foam mattresses).
  • Freshen up and rest for a bit with tea and snacks.
  • Enjoy sunset over the Parvati Valley if the weather is clear.
  • At camp, we will gather around a bonfire area (if wind allows, if not then common heated hall), share stories, music, and make new friends.
  • After having veg dinner we will call it a day and enjoy staying in the camps.

Day 2

Nakthan → Rudra Nag → Kheerganga → Barshaini

  • Wake up early in the morning and enjoy a cup of tea, get freshen up and ready for Kheerganga trek.
  • Have basic but tasty breakfast at the campsite and carry your day bag as we will start our trek to the top around 10 am.
  • After Nakthan, the trail enters dense forest and the climb will be a bit challenging. You walk through stretches of pine and deodar, with glimpses of waterfalls and side streams.
  • The path narrows at few places, with occasional rocky or slippery bits after rain. You will be crossing wooden bridges and small streams that will add a sense of thrill and adventure.
  • Rudra Nag is one of the most famous break points on the trek, a waterfall with a small temple and dhabas that serve simple meals. Here you can rest and have tea, maggie or meals before the final climb to Kheerganga meadows.
  • From Rudra Nag, the trail gains height through thick forest cover. This is where people feel this trail is “moderate” in Kheerganga trek difficulty level.
  • Depending on group pace, you usually reach Kheerganga meadow 3-4 hours after leaving Nakthan.
  • Once you reach the top a wide meadow opens up along with the hot spring and temple.
  • Step into a hot water spring and let the warm water ease tired legs and shoulders after the climb.
  • Local belief talks about healing properties of the water and our trekkers mostly talk about how unexpectedly good it feels after the tiring climb.
  • We will leave Kheerganga top after enjoying for 1-2 hours and then go back to the Nakthan campsite to pack your bags.
  • From Nakthan you will reach Barshaini by 4-5pm and descending will take 2-3 hours.
  • Once you reach Barshaini the trek will end and go home with memories of a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How difficult is this Kheerganga trek for a first‑timer?

Kheerganga trek difficulty level is easy to moderate, and first time trekkers can do it easily. There are steady climbs and a few steep or slippery stretches, but you don’t need any prior trekking experience. Any person with basic fitness can complete this trek easily.

On Day 1 you cover 5-6 km from Barshaini to Nakthan and second Day 6km uphill climb and 12 km downhill climb to Barshaini. You will be covering a total of 24kms in 2 days.

The best months for this trek are March – June and September – November, when the trail is usually clear, the hot springs feel amazing, and road access to Barshaini is more reliable.

Parvati Kund at Kheerganga is open across most of the trekking season, but access can be disrupted during heavy snow, so it’s always subject to conditions on your travel dates.

Our Kheerganga trek is very safe for solo women travellers as our groups are mixed of women and men and experienced local guides will be there to take care of your safety. Solo women travellers join our batches all the time, and we also do women‑only groups with female trek leaders.

No camping is not allowed at Kheerganga top as rules have been tightened over the years because of environmental concerns. We generally camp near Nakthan village on day 1 and reach Kheerganga meadows on day 2.
